What is Radio Day?
Radio Day is Opelika’s Rotary flagship annual fundraiser. Each year, Rotarians solicit donations from local businesses and individuals, and we use these donations to serve our community throughout the following year. For an entire day, Rotarians take to the airways to promote and thank those who donate with ads and messages on a local radio station. Depending on the donation amount, an ad/message will be announced a certain number of times throughout the day.
Opelika Rotary is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation (The Opelika Rotary Charitable Foundation), so all donations are tax-deductible.
Who benefits from Radio Day?
Opelika Rotary uses the money raised through Radio Day to fund grants to local programs and agencies. Examples of some of the recipients of grants in past years are as follows:
- Jean Dean RIF
- 100 Trees for 100 Years Project – our group planted one hundred trees in Opelika to commemorate our club’s 100th anniversary
- Baby Steps
- Camp ASCCA
- Rotary Christmas Families – sponsoring local families in need and providing each with a complete Christmas experience.
